Helpful Hints for Your First Dance!

Be prepared - decide in plenty of time what you’re first dance music should be. Discuss openly and be honest - let it mean something to you both.

Once you’ve both decided upon the special song, contact a reliable, professional dance studio that can choreograph you’re every step to suit you. Make that first dance YOUR DANCE!

If you don’t have a particular song, a few general Ballroom, Salsa and/or Latin classes will give you an introduction to a number of dances. This may help you to decide on a type of dance that you prefer (waltz, foxtrot, rumba, salsa, etc.). We can suggest some songs to go with whatever dance style you wish.

If using a live band for your first dance, ask them to put your song onto CD or MP3 for you to practice to their music. You don’t want to be on the dance floor to find that the band plays your song at a different tempo to the CD you were practicing to!!

Wear your Wedding shoes before your Big Day to get used to them. You should wear them for your last dance lesson - but be careful and remember to wear some protective covering (a pair of socks over them works great) - just in case!

Check with the wedding venue to see if you can have a practice on their dance floor in the week before your wedding. Or, maybe even have your last lesson there. Alternatively, get the dancefloor measurements from the venue, and we can mark them on our studio floor.

Pay heed to your perfect wedding dress when planning your first dance. Make sure the choreographer is aware of your capable steps within the confines of your dress.

Smile - even if you make a mistake - it doesn’t matter - you’ll only dance your First Dance once - make the most of it and ENJOY!
